Insane in the Membrain...Insane in the Brain

Sometimes we do things for own sanity. Sometimes those things look insane to other people but are normal to yourself. I need a weight room for my sanity. I need to exercise to the point that I have to change plans to fit my workouts instead of the other way around. It sounds stupid to other people and when the ask why, I have no answer. There is no answer, no matter how I try to explain why I need to be there, they still wouldn't be able to understand. I myself cannot explain it, its just something I need to do. It's not a vanity thing, It more of a sanctuary thing. I can gather my thoughts, I can relieve stress, I can structure my life. We all have those places, mine just happens to be somewhere I can lift. At times it can be saddening when I'm in the gym instead of where my friends are, but if I don't go there is constant anxiety. In my case the gym can be damaging health rather than strengthening it.

  1. I can actually relate to your story. My boyfriend’s sister has a boyfriend who also plans his day around working out. He won’t go to dinner or a movie if it’s during the time he wants to work out. It does seem kind of insane, but I see where you are coming from.

I really liked the last sentence of your story, “In my case the gym can be damaging health rather then strengthening it.” It really helped develop your story. It showed the readers that you can’t help your habit of missing out on hanging out with friends because you have to go to the gym. What you believe the gym does to you is probably complete opposite of what others think and that difference can draw your readers in because they want to be able to understand where you are coming from.

    Nice job!

  2. I think most people would have to agree with where you’re coming from. Not necessarily meaning about working out, but about being controlled by our routines. For me I almost completely relate since I work out three days a week and really can’t stand missing a day. I really enjoyed how you described it to be controlling whether then a controlled activity. I enjoyed the part about it not being about vanity but something deeper than that. I think most people today would understand that there are places we like to escape to and that sometimes we become dependent on that. Over all I really enjoyed reading this and look forward to more. Great job!

  3. Hey Ali,

Impressive blog! I believe this was a very personal subject that you were willing to share. I really enjoyed reading your story the detail and emotion you added made the subject stand out. Mentioning that you revolved your personal schedule around your work schedule demonstrates how dedicated you are to working out.
You’re closing sentenced really stood out, “In my case the gym can be damaging health rather then strengthening it.” This summed up your entire blog. Nice Job!
